Aare of Ago-Are passionately appeals to Nigerain youths to shelve the Nationwide protest

A prominent traditional ruler in Oyo State,Oba Abodunrin Oyetunji Kofoworola (PhD FCIA) ,has appealed to the Nigerian youths, especially those of the Oyo State, to shelve the planned August nationwide protest in the interest of the country, calling on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the hardship issues raised by the youths .

The monarch made the call in a statement made available to this newspaper on Monday, says the planned protest would plunge Nigeria into further economic mess and insecurity.

The royal father stresses the need to constructively look inward for better solutions to the myriad of challenges rather than resorting to protest.

Kofoworola, who acknowledged that it is the citizens’ constitutional right to protest, maintains that protest will not provide the solution to their grievances.

He, however, urges the indigenes of Ago-Are Community and Okeogun in general not to participate in any form of demonstration that would incite violence, destroy public infrastructures, infringe upon the fundamental rights of other members of the community and/or plunge the community, Oke Ogun and the nation at large in anarchy.

The statement reads :

“END BAD GOVERNANCE DEMONSTRATION : AN APPEAL BY THE MONARCH

His Royal Majesty Oba Dr Abodunrin Oyetunji Kofoworola, the Aare of Ago Are land, Oyo state has issued a press statement appealing to the youths to shun the end bad governance demonstration scheduled from 1st to 10th August 2024.

Our youths should recall  active citizenship sometimes, which will require a public show of discontent like protests. The right to engage in protest is protected by the law. The right to freedom of expression by all citizens is guaranteed by the law. However in exercising these fundamental rights, it's paramount that the youths of Ago Are, Oke Ogun region do not participate in activities that would incite violence, destroy public infrastructures, infringe upon the fundamental rights of other members of the community and/or plunge the community, Oke Ogun and the nation at large in anarchy"

"I kindly urge the youths of Ago Are , Oke Ogun and the nation to effectively organize and engage in peaceful dialogue, constructive engagement and collective action to address their grievance with the government at national, state and local levels.

By actively engaging their respective elected and appointed leaders, hold the key to successfully influencing policies, creating and implementing initiatives   for building a better nation for themselves and future generations.

We are a nation of resilient people.

A nation of determination, hope, and peace.

Let us build and not destroy.

Let us choose wisdom over folly

Let us choose peace over chaos

Let us choose progress over  anarchy.

I want to use this medium to appeal to all the youths of Ago Are, Oke Ogun regions and the nation at large to shun the protest in the interest of peace, progress and prosperity of the country".
