Heavy Downpour Ravages Schools In Okeogun

Residents of Oke Amu town in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State,have been counting their losses and lamenting untold hardship caused by the heavy downpour that occurred on Saturday night.


Residents while speaking with Okeogun News Reporter ,Kaseem Jenrade said the rainfall that started around 10pm on Saturday night with heavy storm and lightening destroyed schools,houses, shops and also vandalized electricity poles and cables.



Okeogun news crew who visited some of the affected places in the town discovered that ,the complete classroom blocks of Oke Amu Community College were ravaged and some roof and ceilings of Muslim Basic Primary School ,Oke Amu were carted away.


Also electricity poles and cables were seen on the road destroyed by the rainfall.


In their separate remarks, the Olugunwa of Oke Amu, His Majesty Oba Gazali Omotosho Fadeyi, Community Chairman Engineer, Abdul Akeem Adegbite and a Community leader, Alhaji Adegbola Bashiru  lamented the havoc wrecked by the downpour in the area and appealed to the state governor, Eng. Seyi Makinde to assist in the renovation of the affected schools and houses.

He said the students of the affected schools will be exposed to an incondusive learning environment if urgent steps are not taken.

Some of the parents of students who attend the affected schools ,Mr Salaudeen Jimoh and Alfa Saheed Saminu, urged the state government to look into their plight.

They stressed that although the Old Students Association and other concerned bodies have been playing their part, but the damage is beyond their capabilities.

While expressing his dismay on the phone over the incident, Chairman Itesiwaju Local Government Hon Ojo Bolaji Akintola in a chat with Kaseem Jenrade said he has visited the area to see the level of destruction caused and also sympathized with the people of the town.

He urged the state government under the leadership of Engr Seyi Makinde to as a matter of urgency come to the aid of the people of the town and cushion the untold hardship caused by the downpour.
