  A former member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, along with thousands of Accord Party members in Oyo North Senatorial District, Oyo State, defected to the ruling People’s Democratic Party in the state on Thursday. He was formerly received by the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, at Ode-Oba, Iseyin, in the Iseyin Local Government Area of the state. The governor was represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal. Peller, who was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2019 to represent Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola Federal Constituency, left the party in 2023 to secure the Oyo North Senatorial ticket of the Accord Party, but he lost the election to the candidate of the PDP, Fatai Buhari. Peller, however, attributed Makinde’s exemplary leadership qualities to his decision. Mary Joy Foundation Empowers Less Privileged People In Oyo

  A Non-government Organization(NGO),Mary Joy Foundation, has empowered some vulnerable and underprivileged individuals in Saki Community with a view to putting smiles on their faces . The empowerment,which cut across different quarters within the community, held on Monday, 26th February, 2024. Speaking on the development, Mrs Ademiloye Oluwakemisola ,said the Foundation was initiated to provide succor ,support neglecte children, empowerment for abused women,widow's welfare and orphan educational relief-support.  She added that ,the foundation is committed to alleviating the agony of less privileged and giving scholarships to indigent students who couldn't afford to further education.  She called on the corporate organisations and other government establishments to support the underprivileged individuals.  In his remarks, Olufusayo Oladeji ,said the intervention would go along way in the welfarism of the beneficiaries,noting that the government cannot do it alone.  He encourage

Oyo State Governor and Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, ‘Seyi Makinde, has declared that there is no truth in the claim by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, that states of the federation got additional N30 billion each outside of their statutory revenue allocations, to address food insecurity in their states. The governor stated this on Thursday, noting that Oyo State has not got any N30 billion from the FIRS or the Federal Government and that his government has been and will always be open and transparent to the people of the state. Makinde, who added that he has been doing everything to cushion the effect of the economic hardship on the people, warned that leaders should instill confidence and hope in the citizenry in this trying time rather than playing blame game. Makinde Suspends Baale In Saki Over Alleged Crisis

The Oyo State Government has suspended Chief Kilani Ajani as the Baale of Ilua in Saki West Local Government Area of the state. Chief Ajani’s suspension was premised on his activities, which have allegedly caused unrest and political strife within Ilua and Gbepakan communities. According to a letter addressed to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola from the Attorney-General/Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Biodun Aikomo, Chief Ajani was recommended for suspension based on a letter from the Oyo State Solid Minerals Development Agency. The suspension, which was approved by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, is to prevent the crisis in the communities from festering and to allow a fair investigation into the allegations against Chief Ajani.

Reps receive bill seeking creation of Okeogun ,2 more states in South-West

  By Jacob Segun Olatunji    A bill seeking the creation of additional three states in the South-West has been listed for presentation in the House of Representatives. The  bill, being sponsored  by Hon Busayo Oluwole Oke, representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Osun State,  ( Osun-PDP)  is seeking the creation of Oke-Ogun, Ijebu and Ife-Ijesa States respectively. The proposed legislation is titled “A Bill for an Act to amend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended)”. The Bill is seeking for an amendment to the First Schedule, Part I  of the Constitution to read, “The First Schedule, Part I of the Constitution  is amended by introducing new states and reducing the number of local government areas.” According to Oke, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, Ife Ijesa State is to be made of 11 LGAs including Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Boluwaduro, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ife South, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Oboku and Oriade. Makinde, Olopoeyan In Cote d’Ivoire For Final

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, along with his associate, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, are currently in Abidjan City to attend the African Nations Cup final match between Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire. Accompanying Governor Makinde are former deputy governor, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarunmi, Chief Bayo Lawal, Mr. Peter Eledan, and other dignitaries. The final match between Nigeria and hosts Cote d’Ivoire will take place at the Alassanne Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan, today, Sunday, 11th. Kick-off is scheduled for 9 pm Nigerian time. President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, has constituted a tribunal to hear petitions on Saturday’s by-elections in Surulere Federal Constituency 1, Lagos State and a constituency in Oyo State. The constituency affected is Saki West Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly. The tribunal secretary, Mr Ibrahim Usman, stated in Ibadan on Monday that the panel would be sitting at Roseline Omotosho Court House, Ikeja. “For any enquiry, members of the public are advised to contact the tribunal’s registry at the aforementioned venue,’’ he stated.
